The semi-assembly of fire detector sensors has been completely automated with this customized robot line. In total are four components clipped together wheras the main body is laser-labelled with the serial number. Finally the parts are packed and palletized in boxes for the further transportation.

A level conveyor, equipped with a six axis robot is placed to an existing linear handling system. The conveyor consists of two tracks: one for trays containing metal inserts, the other for empty carton boxes receiving the finished parts.

In order to ensure that this tiny workpiece can be accurately grasped, before the workpiece into the mold, the robot moved to the front of the Cognex camera to detect its position, angle and the quality of the workpiece.

The production of tiny watch components is automated by a TendMATE:S® system. Small metal shafts are inserted precisely into the mold of an injection molding machine. Previously the same operation was done manually by hand which cost much more time and also led to frequent mold damages due to improper insertion. As the TendMATE:S® came in operation, these problems were solved.

The production of watch bodies requires high cycle time due to the high demand over the world. Therefore, two robots work together in this customized system. Where one robot prepares the inserts, the other one tends the injection molding machine.

Metal tubes are processed by three different tooling machines, where the handling of the parts from one machine to the other is executed by a TendMATE:L® system. Equipped with a solid double gripper, the part exchange is stable and precise.

In this application, one robot is tending a turning machine. To achieve high flexibility for different part types, the robot is equipped with a camera in his hand to detect the raw parts in the feed-in box. Additionally, it detects empty boxes and automatically de-stacks them to continue with the next full one.

Six milling centers are combined to one complete production line - all connected by a TendMATE:XL® system. The raw parts are located in a magazine rack on standardized pallets. Thanks to an external job management system and RFID chips on each pallet, the system is predestined to produce an unlimited range of different part types with small lot size.

By automating the tending process of two machines with a TendMATE:L® set, this customer could drastically increase his production and lower his labour costs. Once the cell is loaded with up to 400 raw parts, the system runs autonomic for one complete shift under minimal supervision.
